the hello. the goodbye.

On Tuesday at 12:30pm my BEST FRIEND Sara landed at LAX and our 3rd California vacation began. This year our goal was to just enjoy life together. No real plans. No big adventures. Just ordinary day to day activities. Together. We spent Tuesday afternoon in my office – went to Starbucks at 3pm and got everything under control so that I could be out Wednesday through Friday. Thursday evening we enjoyed the culinary delight that is the Cheesecake Factory with Shalina Johnson – SO FUN! I love that the two of them have met. After dinner Sara and I went to my house and she got the GRAND TOUR. We hung out for a little bit and then collapsed into the bed – my Sar had been awake for over 25 hours and was READY to snore. Friday I woke up with a ridiculous headache so we just kind of laid around. We made breakfast and then watched the Price is Right – Sara’s all time favorite television program and took naps. Around 4:30pm we decided it was time to leave the house and decided on pedicures as our activity for the day. We ventured to Angel Nail and Spa {my personal FAVORITE pedicure place} and enjoyed the two hours it took them to soak, scrub, rub, and lotion our feet! WONDERFUL. We then headed to The Whole Enchilada for some Mexican grubbing. We stopped at the grocery store after dinner and were home by about 8:30pm to enjoy the HILLARIOUS Brian Regan on dvd. Thursday morning we slept in and then made breakfast together again. The afternoon was spent at Laguna Beach enjoying the sun, the waves, magazines, and of course the crazy seaweed flies. We were WIPED out when we got home just after 7pm, but I made us some yummy dinner and Steven came over to enjoy the evening with us. We were going to watch a movie but it was too late too fast and we were ready for the bed…so after laughing with Steven and my roommate Craig {over ice-cream} we turned in. Friday we got up, got ready, and started our leisurely drive to San Diego. Our first stop was in San Clemente at the Rainbow Factory…we picked out some espresso flips and free popcorn then got back on the road. The next stop was the Carlsbad Premium Oulets – the GAP outlet is LEGIT. We each found a couple treasures, ate a Wetzel Pretzel, got a Starbucks for the road and got back in the car.Just after 5pm we pulled into the Santee Towncenter where we made a few more purchases and then went to the SWOPE home for dinner. Sara officially met my family {including Madeline who was running a muck all evening} and it was really fun to invite her into that part of my life. We have been friends for over 6 years now – but it was the first time she met my parents in person {I think they have talked on the phone from time to time}. After dinner and chatting for a bit, Sara and I ventured to The Yogurt Mill – one of the very few “attractions” in East County San Diego but a FAVORITE of mine from through the years – then went to my brother and sister-in-law’s for a movie. We ended up watching The Debaters {which was a really good movie even though it gave me major fits of anxiety} and staying up WAY TOO LATE….but we were on vacation so WHO CARES! We slept in on Saturday and then took my Dad to lunch in honor of Father’s Day. We spent the afternoon just hanging out at home and then decided to trek back to Orange County just before dinner time. We hopped off the interstate at Avery Parkway to enjoy dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings – one of Sara’s very favorites. It was almost reminiscent of a Zaxby’s – although that love is reserved for the true south. We got back to my house with the evening long behind us and the reality began to sink in…Sar needed to repack her luggage and decide what to wear on her plane ride home…alarms had to be set and living life together had to end…she lives in Alabama and I live in California…we always KNEW it wasn’t forever. The hello is always followed by the goodbye. However, when we woke up the following morning we laughed and enjoyed the ride to the airport...we hugged {several times}… prayed together and then said the official goodbyes and walked our separate directions…without shedding any tears {seriously impressive for us}. Sara and I have done this enough times now that we know goodbye is not forever…we have already talked on the phone and texted numerous times…we have learned to live life together from a distance…but that doesn’t change the fact that life is SO MUCH SWEETER when we get to live it together in person. Thanks for a WONDERFUL vacation best friend! iloveyou SO much and can’t wait to plan our next visit!!
