just another afternoon with Gan...

On Saturday afternoon, Gan and I went to Bunker Hill: the park featured in (500) Days of Summer. We stopped at Starbucks on our way out of Orange County (because NO adventure is complete without at least one beverage and $.50 refill) and turned on the tunes for the trek to downtown Los Angeles. We parked in a somewhat sketchy lot that was only $5 (where Megan forgot to lock the car…WHOOOPS!) that was super close to the park and then walked over. When we got there, people were sitting at THE bench so we settled for one a bit higher on the hill but were quickly able to SWOOP in (you go fast, I’ll grab our stuff and go slow) when the couple left. We sat on the bench for quite a while (with a few interruptions for other patrons who desperately wanted their photos made with the bench) and just chatted. We talked about all manner of nonsense but really enjoyed our time together. It started to get a bit chilly as the sun began to set, so we headed to Starbucks to refill and then we were off in search of babycakes – the gluten free bakery that Gan LOVES (I can’t blame her – there aren’t a lot of gluten free baked goods that actually taste good!). We found babycakes (after almost hitting one homeless man – who in his fright and rage actually hit my car with his hand – the audacity! And a minor run in with the parking meter – thank you to the stranger on the side of the road who told us that the parking meter is broken and we therefore do not have to pay at it – THAT is what fail means em! Ha!) and ordered tasty treats to go. We then got back on the road for Orange County. We got turned around SEVERAL times so it took us FOREVER (literally) to get home, and when we did, the starvation was upon us. We attempted to get breakfast for dinner at the Original Pancake House but we got there about 6 hours after it closed, so we settled for IHOP. DELISH. The omelets and hash browns hit the spot!! With full tummies, we were ready for bed so we headed for home. It was another wonderful afternoon/evening…I sure hope there are a LOT more of these in store even though we won’t live close anymore…I’m not ready for the ridicularity of our lives to end…
