This weekend we celebrated Gan’s 24th birthday (her birthday isn’t actually until June 4 – but she’ll be gone and living officially in PISMO {rather than the spare bedroom at my house} by then so we celebrated a bit early this year). She has been saying for months {literally} that she wanted elephant rides for her birthday – so we did just that. The Santa Ana Zoo has a darling elephant named Becky who is 23 years old and lets interested individuals ride her on the weekends during the cooler months between the hours of 11am and 3pm as long as there is no potential for rain and it isn’t too windy for the nominal fee of $5/person/ride and an additional $10 for photographs. PERFECT!!

We started our day around 11:30am with lunch @ Rubio’s and then went STRAIGHT to the zoo to introduce ourselves to Becky. She really is the most darling thing EVER. We took our ride on her and realized after we had dismounted that we never actually gave them our photo ticket – so unfortunately we had to get back on to have our picture made. TWO FOR ONE! THANKS BECKY!

We then explored the rest of the zoo {which should NOT be called a zoo but rather an exotic farm or animal encounter – it really is not legit enough to be a zoo} including a long visit with the lemurs. The Zoo Keepers Note stated that some of the Lemur’s had benign fat deposits on their chests that had not been removed because they were merely cosmetic. However, I beg to differ. I am not claiming to know best, but I am fairly sure that the lemur carrying around the two fat deposits that were quite possibly equivalent to double D’s would have argued the “cosmetic” surgery would have greatly enhanced his/her quality of life. I was SO SAD for that lemur.

We then visited “The FARM” which has a rabbit house with no rabbits, a few ducks, some goats, a horse and a mule, and a ridiculous loud macaw. We took a lot of photographs and then decided we were done. With the zoo behind us, we were off to American Apparel to get Gan a t-shirt – another one of her birthday requests.
We found one in a lovely green and then headed to Rutabegorz for dinner. We had a pleasant waitress {which was a blessing considering the JERK we had last time} and enjoyed our meal. After dinner Gan and I dropped Kenz off at her house, made a pot of coffee (12 cups to be exact), put on comfies and sweatshirts, grabbed the chips and queso, and hit the road for the Hollywood Forever Cemetery where we were viewing THE THING. WHAT A TRIP! SO MUCH FUN!

Gan and I had blast watching the 80’s horror film and laughing the night away as full grown adults could not manage to avoid the porta-johns for the 2-hour flick…it was easy to get TO the “restrooms” but getting back was a bit more challenging…we overheard THIS conversations…wave your cell phone in the air so I can find you…haha! It was seriously SO MUCH FUN! we can’t wait go again. I think that Gan felt celebrated and loved – and I KNOW she is looking forward to SHE AND HIM concert weekend {I “surprised” her with tickets as her gift!!}!! I am so thankful for you sweet friend! loveyou EVER SO MUCH! Happy Birthday!
