A 3 post weekend – post 2

Kenz and I ran a bit behind schedule Sunday morning but were on our way to Ventura to pick up Steven Buxton by 10:00am. We got there just before noon, dropped our bags in his house, loaded up his car with snacks, and took off again. The drive was quite pleasant and before I knew it, we were in Nipomo to kidnap Megan for our weekend adventure. We enjoyed a “quick” afternoon chat with the McAlpine Family (minus Andrew) and then got on the road for San Luis Obispo. Our first stop was wine tasting at Wolff Vineyards. I have never been wine tasting before, but it is the IDEAL late afternoon activity! The vineyard itself was GORGEOUS and with Steven’s membership, we were all able to taste their collection of wines for FREE! (I LOVE FREE!!!!!) We spent about an hour and a half enjoying the view from the garden while sipping on a variety of wines and eating chips and homemade guacamole. It was, in a word, PERFECT. After the winery, we went into the actual town of SLO. We had dinner at Firestone – a MAGNIFICENT place for people watching – and the tri-tip sandwich was legit. It was kind of weird being SURROUNDED by college students in a city. Cal Baptist wasn’t anything like that! After dinner, we walked around SLO, went down the DISGUSTING gum alley, watched sunset over Cal Poly and then took off for Arroyo Grande to get ice-cream at Doc Burnstein’s. ICE CREAM WAS DELICIOUS! S. Bux, Gan and I all had the Merlot Raspberry Truffle and Kenz had the rainbow sorbet. With our stomachs full to overflowing we got back on the road for Steven’s house in Ventura where we were sleeping for the night before Santa Barbara Day. Unfortunately, before we even got on the interstate, Steven got pulled over and was cited for turning left illegally. The officer was like 12 years old and insisted that it is a really dangerous intersection. I wanted to explain his confusion – we actually didn’t make an unsafe left turn – there was NO ONE ON THE ROAD. LITERALLY. AND nothing is THAT unsafe in Arroyo Grande – no one under the age of 85 lives there – come to Orange County or LA – we’ll show you some dangerous intersections. BUT I am working on controlling the tongue and stayed silent. Steve was a bit bummed out but really handled the entire situation remarkably well. I would have been a wreck! We made it “home” safely with no further incidents and promptly put on our “comfies” to watch Freaks and Geeks before tucking in for the evening. It was a FULL day of adventure and fun and we were EXHASUTED but another FULL day was ahead of us…
