Happy Birthday Sweet Baby!!!

Dearest Madeline,
You are ONE today. I still remember so vividly the day you were born - I was sitting in a meeting at work and my cell phone went off - I opened it up and there was a little teeny tiny picture of you - I remember starting to cry immediately and exclaiming, "OH MY GOODNESS SHE IS PERFECT - SHE LOOKS JUST LIKE A BABY DOLL!"

This was the very first picture I saw of you...you were only a few minutes old - they had just finished washing you up and doing a few tests to make sure you were healthy. YOU WERE! You weighed 6 lbs and 9 oz and you were 19 inches long. You were very petite with the most darling little features. I didn't get to meet you in person until you were 10 days old. You see, I live about 2 hours away from you and I got sick the weekend you were born - I didn't want to bring you any germs, so I had to wait. I cried then too. I wanted to meet you SO BADLY! You went to a wedding when you were 5 days old and I saw pictures of you from that - I was a little jealous that some of mommy's friends got to hold you before your AUNT SHELLY did. When I finally got to Grandma and Grandpa Swope's house on your 10th day of life, you were there waiting for me. Your mom had the camera to catch a photo of our meeting and as soon as I saw you I melted. It was undoubtedly LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT! Since then I have wanted nothing more than to hold you and play with you and laugh with you and watch you grow and be a part of every small and insignificant moment of you life as well as all the BIG ONES. Today you are ONE...today you scoot around the house and pull yourself up on all kinds of things...you eat grown up food and according to your daddy, you really like ice-cream... but my how time does fly. I know that very soon you'll be off to kindergarten with your very own backpack and lunchpail...you'll performing in school productions and piano recitals (i bet Grandma Swope will teach you to play the piano just like she did your Daddy and me!) I bet I will blink and you'll be in high school getting ready for the prom and then moving away to college. You have so much life ahead of you - but for now, I am just SO GLAD that we can watch you take your first bites of cake - clap for you as you learn how to walk - laugh with you as you learn new words and phrases and "cool tricks" and rejoice over EVERY BLESSED MOMENT OF YOUR LIFE. You are the greatest gift I've ever received and ILOVEYOU endlessly! Happy Birthday sweet baby!
