traditions

i am a HUGE fan of traditions. i hold onto them TIGHTLY (almost with a death grip) and never want ANYTHING to stand in the way. i remember as a little girl when mom would try to change plans on me - i just wasn't having it. tradition is the way it is and the way it MUST BE! ha!
my family has several traditions - we have the same breakfast on Christmas morning every year - sasuage balls with eggs, fried potatoes, biscuits, and canned peaches. I'm not sure why or how that became our annual feast, and yet that is what it is and what it shall be. on New Years Eve we always go out to dinner at nicolosis - a little Italian restaurant in San Diego - we argue OVER dinner about WHICH MOVIE we're going to see after dinner - we go see said movie (or movies - as we've gotten older, we're a lot more comfortable and confident splitting into groups and going to see our movie of choice) - then head over to the Powell home for a PARTAY...we bust out the pots and pans and we have blowers and cider and we lie in the street and scream, "no fear in the new year" its ridiculous really, but its TRADITION!

4th of July has become somewhat of a tradition in our family as well...each year we go to the Holden's house at about 2:00pm and hang out there until 8:15pm or so. We swim, have chips and dip, a bbq dinner, swim more, chatty chat chat, eat some dessert, put our feet in the jacuzzi, and then when 8:15pm FINALLY hits, we lace up our walking shoes and head down to Kennedy park to lie directly underneath the fireworks. We always enjoy the show; unfortunately, we alway enjoy the show WITHOUT music. Someday we will rememdy that. ha! After the fireworks we walk BACK to the Holden's and spend another hour and a half or so enjoying the jacuzzi before leaving (traffic is REALLY bad right after the fireworks - so we patiently wait it out with great friends and maybe a little more dessert!). Our 4th tradition is something I really enjoy! There just isn't anything like sweet fellowship.
Perhaps the sweetest part is reuniting with my sweetest lifelong friends. In the top picture, I am on the far left, Anna Powell is in the middle, and Jenny Holden is on the right. There is nothing quite as special as being friends 24 years later!!!
