On Saturday evening, Gan and I went to see Daniel Tosh @ the Brea Improv and boy oh boy was it an experience. We got sucked into “Taking the Stage” just before we were supposed to leave, so we were running a bit behind when we got to downtown Brea and decided to just grab a QUICK dinner at Daphne’s before getting in line for the show. As we walked into the theatre, Gan noticed a framed picture of Ellen hanging on the wall – that was all we needed – we KNEW it was going to be a good night!! Once we got into the venue, we were seated with strangers at a table for two (which the owners of the fine establishment had decided would be appropriate for four) and asked for our beverage order. We knew there was a two item minimum, so after thoroughly perusing our options, we settled on a Mai Tai and a Washington Apple. The other couple at our ridiculously small table was friendly and personable – which was particularly pleasant given their EXTREMELY close proximity to us. They were far more enjoyable than the really happy gentlemen at the table next to ours who was beyond intoxicated long before the show began and had to excuse himself numerous times to go to the restroom which wouldn’t have been a bit deal except for the fact that because of the sheer number of people crammed into the venue, he had to literally crawl over people to get out from behind his table which was a bit more than a moderate distraction. But I digress. The opener was another comedian named JASPER. He was hysterical. He had a really interesting accent that made him fun to listen to regardless of the words coming out of his mouth. However, I think our favorite was his run about how the white house shouldn’t be called the white house anymore because the streak is officially over and perhaps we should re-title it the half-way house since Obama is a little bit of everything. The second comedian was a waste of time – nothing he said was even remotely worth laughing at – but he did get us that much closer to Daniel Tosh’s routine so I guess listening to him was not entirely in vain. Daniel Tosh came on 3rd and DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Gan and I have literally listened to his original album: True Stories I Made Up since college without ever investigating whether or not he had any new material – so every joke was new to us. We laughed non-stop for the entire hour he was on stage. I don’t really remember most of the non-sense he said…he had a couple great one-liners… and I’m still laughing about his interaction with air mattresses and his conclusion that it is impossible to wake up on the right side of the floor. Gan and I REALLY enjoyed the evening and think it was definitely worth it...well minus the $4.45 Snapple iced tea – that my friends was just WRONG – but we won’t go there. We’ll just choose to keep on laughing!!
