Thanksgiving 2010

I am officially an adult – I was asked to participate in the making/bringing of food items for the Thanksgiving Feast with my Mom’s extended family. I have ALWAYS just tacked on to the Swope contributions – but not anymore – apparently 25 is the cut off – I’m officially responsible for MYSELF. They didn’t get crazy and ask me to bring something outrageous like a turkey – no no – they figured they would give me a few years to work up to that. This year I was responsible for olives and pickles (and YES they can be done wrong) as well as a chip and dip option. The chip/dip combo was a HIT but I am sad to admit I came home with an unopened jar of pickles. I’m a Thanksgiving appetizer failure! Ha!

It was really nice to spend the day with family though – since I don’t live with my parents anymore, I look forward to the holidays SO MUCH MORE. The day also seems to go much faster as an adult than I remember it going as a kid – maybe because my conversational skills have improved and I am not desperately searching for something INTERESTING to do? NO IDEA! Ha! I am SO blessed and SO THANKFUL for so many things and it was WONDERFUL to have a day to reflect and truly PRAISE the Lord for His constant generosity. He is SO good.
my little family...sister, dad, mom (WE MISSED kev, jam, and mads! - it was their turn with her family...i'm not SUPER good at sharing the M-girl!)our branch of the family tree...cousin Greg, Aunt Sandy, Cousin Bryan, little sister, Aunt Pat, Mom, Grandma, Uncle Greg, and Dad...lots of our family was away this year - Kym & Doug live in Alaska with their family...Mark and Dawn are in Japan with their family...David and Nicole are in Texas with their family....we just keep getting smaller...here is a picture of the "large group" in attendance which seriously looks RIDICULOUSLY small...how strange that a HUGE Thankgiving looks SMALL...my beautiful Grandma turned 93 a few weeks ago and still looks INCREDIBLE. I am so thankful to still have her in my life...i pray she has a few more good years in her...that she'll meet my husband - and maybe even my kids...we'll see...who KNOWS when that will all happen!and of course, this is the little sister...we look VERY much like we're related...but I still venture to say that Kevin and I look MORE alike...

Oh no, no. You are looking at this the wrong way. Your pickles weren't a failure. It's just that your chips and dip were SUCH a success that people just didn't have room for the pickles! :) mmmm...now I want pickles!
